For football fanatics, Sunday in front of the wide-screen can be likened to a trip to Sunday mass. And for DIRECTV Supercast subscribers, every play counts. The only downside to a television interface is that there is no way to get all the action in one interactive, multi-screen space. And that’s where BLITZ, well … called a blitz. DIRECTV and was looking to achieve just that: give their users a way to catch every second of action without flipping through channels.
Leveraging Adobe® technologies, and our talents and expertise in Flash and Flex, we developed an AIR® application that allowed viewers to follow every pass, punt and pick through a streamlined, interactive interface. Working closely with DIRECTV and gSkinner, we created a sleek UI that was highly optimized for performance—one that allowed demanding video streaming, high-quality animations and parsing of large, real-time data sets. It was equally important that secure DRM was in place to protect valuable NFL content.
Early adoption rates surpassed expectations, and some have said that the application was a “better-than-TV” experience for football fanatics. About the work, DIRECTV Senior VP, Steven Roberts said that "for the DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET SUPERCAST customer, there is no out-of-bounds. Fans can watch nearly every game, every Sunday, along with the best plays, scores and stats, all in real-time on their Mac or PC, no matter where they are."
