The Adobe Platform is not unlike a solar system, with the Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR clients resting at the center. Surrounding this nucleus are extensions by which we use these tools and technologies, such as frameworks, partner spaces, community networks and so forth. Our goal was to create an experience that showcased the ecosystem in an engaging way that would act as an educational tool for designers, developers, sales teams and business decision makers.

Using the Flash Platform, we created a multimedia experience that mirrored that of an actual special galaxy; there, users were able to explore the components of the Flash Platform. Understanding that different audiences are interested in different areas of the ecosystem, we worked to make this a user-driven exploration that allow consumers to move through the different rings of the solar system (that include “runtime”, “technologies” and “ecosystem”) and explore each item. Short descriptions are offered for each item, and when necessary, a video or link to other areas of the website for more information is provided.

The experience has been live since November 2008, and has been praised by Adobe’s internal team as an effective solution to tell the full story—and show the full ecosystem—of Flash. Since its launch, through July, it has received 2,872,448 page visits—a number that is consistently increasing. And not only is it an educational tool, but through the beautiful and elegant animations, it also showcases the magic of Flash.
